Qatar Defeats Kuwait at Start of International Handball Tournament

Qatar national handball team defeated its Kuwaiti counterpart (23-19) on Tuesday, at the start of Qatar International Handball Tournament, which is organized by Qatar Handball Association till next Saturday with participation of Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Iran.

The Qatari team succeeded in imposing its control over the game from the first minutes of the game.

Qatar handball team prepares to defend its title and obtain one of the cards qualifying for the 2023 World Championship for the ninth time in the history of Qatari handball after participating in the editions of Portugal 2003, Tunisia 2005, Germany 2007, Spain 2013, Qatar 2015, France 2017, Germany and Denmark 2019, and Egypt 2021. The national team achieved the second place in Qatar 2015 edition, which was its best result in the history of its participations

President of Qatar Handball Association Ahmed Al Shaabi praised the distinguished participation in this edition of Qatar International Handball Tournament, noting the participation of strong teams, namely Iran, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, in addition to the Qatari team, the Asian champion.

Al Shaabi underlined that playing matches at this high level will no doubt enhance the Qatari team's readiness to defend its title in the Asian Championship, which will be held in Saudi Arabia early next year.

Al Shaabi noted the keenness of Qatar Handball Association to host Qatar International Handball Tournament annually, which reflects the full support provided to the national team to prepare well for continental and international tournaments.

For his part, Secretary-General of Kuwait Handball Association Qayed Al Adwani extended thanks to the president and members of Qatar Handball Association for the invitation to attended the International Tournament, and for the hospitality and the good organization of the tournament, which is not new for the State of Qatar which is well-known for its remarkable experiences in organizing various tournament and for achieving success in all the events it hosts.

Al Adwani added that the tournament constitutes a good opportunity for the technical staff to monitor the preparations of their teams for the Asian Championship, which will be held in Dammam, Saudi Arabia.

On the other hand, the Iranian team defeated its Saudi counterpart (24-16) in the second match held today.

The match will continue Thursday, bringing together Kuwait vs Iran in the first match; and Qatar vs Saudi Arabia in the second match.

The tournament will conclude Saturday with two matches, bringing together Saudi Arabia vs Kuwait; and Qatar vs Iran.
