In a new achievement for Qatari sports, President of Qatar Gymnastics Federation Ali Al-Hitmi won the position of First Vice President of the International Gymnastics Federation and member of the Executive Office of the Federation during the elections that took place on the sidelines of the General Assembly meeting held today in Antalya, Turkey.

Ali Al-Hitmi said in an exclusive statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA) that his victory as First Vice President of the International Gymnastics Federation will be recorded in sports history as a victory for the State of Qatar and all Arabs in gymnastics.

He added, "I am very happy for this precious confidence that I obtained from the members of the General Assembly of the International Gymnastics Federation, who voted for me," stressing that "this confidence did not come from a vacuum, but behind it was work, effort, and a good and great reputation for the State of Qatar at international forums, especially in sports."

He explained that his success today at this international forum is also due to the "appreciated effort made by the Qatar Olympic Committee, chaired by HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al-Thani, and his great support for sports in the country."

Ali Al-Hitmi pointed out that the sports world fully trusts the State of Qatar, referring in this respect to the many tournaments and events that have been organized and hosted by Doha, including gymnastics championships. Doha annually hosts a round of the Artistic Gymnastics World Cup. It also organized the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in 2018, the largest tournament in which 360 players participated.

The First Vice-President of the International Gymnastics Federation confirmed that the sports world is well aware of the value of the State of Qatar, which helped the members of the General Assembly give their votes to the candidate of the State of Qatar, adding that the support of Arab colleagues and their standing together with the only Arab candidate had had a good effect in achieving success, ''which is a matter of pride for me and for them."

Concluding, Al-Hitmi expressed his wish to live up to the expectations of all members of the General Assembly of the International Gymnastics Federation, and to work with them to spread the culture of this sport more and more and develop it in the Middle East.
