Qatar's Nasser Saleh Al Attiyah leads the list of participants in the 2021 Oman International Rally, the fifth and final round of the Middle East Rally Championship, (MERC) which will officially start Thursday, for three days.
Al Attiyah, a Six-time winner will compete in the event with his French navigator, Mathieu Baumel, in a Volkswagen Polo R5, where the Qatari driver will face competition from 11 rivals in the FIA category, with 11 more drivers competing in the second and third rounds of the Oman Rally Championship, just behind the FIA official field.
The talented young Omani driver Abdullah Al Rawahi and the experienced Qatari driver Nasser Khalifa Al Attiyah, offer the main competition to top-seeded Al Attiyah.
Al Rawahi was the runner-up for Nasser Saleh Al Attiyah in 2020, as he meets again with his Jordanian navigator Atta Al Hamoud in a Skoda Fabia Evo, while Nasser Khalifa Al Attiyah is driving a Ford Fiesta with his navigator Giovanni Bernacini.
Oman Rally is considered one of the oldest motorsport events in the Middle East, dating back to 1979, and it entered the first calendar of the MERC in 1984.
