Doha Bank held its largest CSR initiative, Al Dana Green Run at Al Bidaa Park on Friday with a “record turnout”.

The event was held under the patronage of the Ministry of Culture and Sports, and was supported by Qatar Sports for All Federation (QSFA), Traffic Department and Qatar Red Crescent Society.

The event builds on Doha Bank’s commitment to raising environmental awareness among Qatar’s communities, the bank said in a statement.

The 14th edition of the annual 3km run was organised in partnership with Al Sulaiman Holding, Al Sulaiman Rent a Car, Al Sulaiman Jewellery, Al Tawfeeq Travel, Baladna, McDonalds, Galler Chocolatier, LuLu Hypermarket and Al Rawda Water.

Deriving its name from Doha Bank’s flagship Al Dana Savings scheme, the Al Dana Green Run was organised this year to emphasise the bank’s “commitment and support to achieving Qatar National Vision 2030, in line with its four pillars”.

It also aims to raise awareness of the importance of sports and leading a healthy lifestyle.

Doha Bank Group CEO Dr R Seetharaman said, “It gives me great pride to witness the tremendous success of Doha Bank’s 14th edition of the Al Dana Green Run. The enthusiastic participation of runners and supporters from across the community is a true testament to the unity and harmony that we live with every day.”

This year’s edition was designed with the aim of catering to the needs of the masses, from families to young individuals and groups, through the introduction of new features, such as six new categories of races for different age groups and social segments.

“It is an honour to be part of an initiative that positions Qatar as a supporter of the sports sector and the environment, and more importantly, one that brings the nation’s people together from various segments, offering an equal opportunity to all to participate and showcase their loyalty and commitment to the Doha community.

“We salute Doha Bank for this successful initiative and its ongoing efforts that continuously remind us of the bright future ahead of us. We are co-operating with Doha Bank towards developing Al Dana Green Run in the upcoming years and aiming to increase the number of participants up to 10,000 in the next edition,” said Ahmed al-Ajmi, CEO of Qatar Sports for All, and representative from the Ministry of Culture and Sports.

“When we find ourselves engaging our members in such an inspiring event, which allows them to experience the thrill and excitement of competing in a friendly atmosphere, we cannot help but burst with pride. The Al Dana Green Run highlights the nation’s belief in what people can achieve and succeed regardless of their different individual abilities,” said acting chief retail banking officer Braik al-Marri.
