The Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC) and Seven Clean Seas have teamed up to launch a campaign that will encourage people to prevent plastic pollution in the world’s oceans.

The ‘One Tide’ programme will inform people in Qatar and globally about the importance of plastic waste reduction.

One Tide will provide regular social media updates about plastic reduction projects, while explaining the damage plastic waste is causing to the world’s oceans and marine life. It also aims to encourage a culture of recycling, along with awareness of environmental issues.

Eng. Bodour Al Meer, the SC’s Sustainability Director, said: “We are excited to collaborate with Seven Clean Seas on this important project. Through the One Tide programme, we believe we can reduce the amount of plastic waste in Qatar and across the region. Our immediate objective is to raise awareness of this issue and help people in Qatar – and globally – reduce their reliance on single-use plastics and encourage sustainable behaviours.”

Jassim Al Jaidah, the SC’s Sustainability Stakeholder and Communication Manager, said: “One Tide aims to encourage the local and international community to address plastic pollution. This project forms part of our efforts to ensure Qatar’s hosting of the FIFA World Cup leaves a lasting environmental legacy for the country and region for years to come.”

Tom Peacock-Nazil, CEO, Seven Clean Seas, said: “We are proud to partner with the SC on this important project. Together, we are aiming to build a community who will champion the prevention of plastic pollution for the benefit of our environment and future generations.”

In addition to regular posts across social media, One Tide will host a number of workshops and events focused on plastic waste prevention.

Al Meer added: “We have already gained some momentum on social media and look forward to building a vibrant online community that is committed to helping our environment. We encourage everyone to follow us on social media and engage with our posts.”
