HE President of the Qatar Olympic Committee and Chairman of Al Shaqab Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al-Thani crowned the winners of the 2022 Longines Global Champions Tour season opener, which was concluded on Saturday.

Germany's 58-year-old showjumper Ludger Beerbaum overcame much younger opponents to emerge as champion in the first leg of the event which was held at the Longines Arena at Al Shaqab from March 3-5, 2022.

The German rider was in complete control and headed home in 38.18 seconds in the jump-off. Sweden Henrik von Echermann and the Netherlands's Jur Vrieling completed the podium.

On the other hand, Stockholm Hearts consisting of Swedes Peder Fredrickson and Malin Baryard won the opening leg of the Longines Global Champions League.

Hamburg Giants finished second while Madrid In Motion took third place.
