Five-star Al Duhail crush Al Gharafa to clinch 50th Amir Cup title

Al Duhail emerged as the 50th Amir Cup champions after an emphatic 5-1 victory over Al Gharafa in the final at the Khalifa International Stadium on Friday.    

The title clash, also attended by the Amir H H Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani, saw the Red Knights dominating the Cheetahs throughout the match. 

Al Duhail, also the winners of 2018 and 2019 editions, received their first half goals from Edmilson Junior (6th minute) and Michael Olunga (18’), with captain Almoez Ali (52’), Ferjani Sassi (58’) and substitute Abdelrhman Moustafa (85’) adding another three in the second session to seal a crushing win.

Ahmed Alaaeildin (53’) was the scorer for Al Gharafa, who were seeking their first Amir Cup title in 10 years after their triumph in the 2012 edition.    

It was a carnival atmosphere at the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 venue as all the available seats were filled, with the attendance limited to 75 percent capacity of the iconic 40,000-seater venue as part of COVID-19 protocols.
