Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) coach Mauricio Pochettino said yesterday that FIFA World Cup 2022 hosts Qatar will organise a wonderful World Cup.

The Argentine said the World Cup is a remarkable event and Qatar’s preparations are in sync. Pochettino expressed this while speaking to the media along with PSG players Italian Marco Verratti, and French Presnel Kimpembe.

PSG, who recently emerged as French champions for the 10th time, arrived in Doha for a new spring tour yesterday morning.

Pochettino expressed his happiness on being a part of the promotional two-day tour in Qatar which includes a visit to two of the eight stadiums hosting the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.

The Paris Saint-Germain coach said: “We are here in a country that loves football, and it will host, after a few months, the World Cup in its 22nd edition. The visit was supposed to be last January but due to the pandemic, it was postponed to a later date, and there was a new eagerness from everyone in the club to come to Doha and to take advantage of the opportunity to meet many of the team’s fans here."

“It is important for us to spend some moments with them. We don’t have time for training, and today and tomorrow are allocated for a marketing tour as well as some activities, which is an excellent opportunity to strengthen the relationship between the club and its fans,” he added.

Speaking about his country at the forthcoming World Cup, Pochettino said Argentina is placed alongside Poland, Mexico and Saudi Arabia and this makes the group a complex one.

During the Qatar spring tour, PSG will be taking part in a series of events organised with the club’s partners present in Qatar, such as ALL, Aspetar, Ooredoo, Qatar Airways, Qatar Tourism and QNB.

PSG, on Saturday, beat Montpellier 4-0 away courtesy of a Lionel Messi double with Angel Di Maria and Kylian Mbappe scoring the others.

Also yesterday, PSG players visited the PSG Qatar Academy at the University of Doha for Science and Technology. Messi and co later also met up with some kid cancer patients at Sidra Medicine.

PSG’s players will take part in a live feed on Instagram with Qatar Airways, to show as many viewers as possible around these football venues.

Qatar has welcomed various Paris Saint-Germain tours over the last decade, such as the Qatar Handball Tour in 2014 and 2015, the Qatar Ladies Tour in 2015, and the Qatar Tour in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2022.
