Qatar to host AIPS Sport Media Awards Ceremony

Qatar will host the fourth edition of International Sports Press Association (AIPS) Sport Media Awards with the ceremony set to be held at the iconic Khalifa International Stadium on June 12. 

Sports journalists representing media organisations and agencies from all over the world will attend the ceremony. 

The Sport Media Awards, which are considered one of the largest World Press Awards, are the highest international accolades in the sport media industry. 

The Awards, currently in its fourth edition, offer recognition to the very best sport storytellers across all media platforms, from photography to video, from print to digital and from podcasts to sports blogs.

AIPS President Gianni Merlo praised the role played by the Qatar Sports Press Committee in holding the annual AIPS Award ceremony, pointing to the importance of the strategic partnership between the two parties in serving sports media around the world and enhancing its role and professional integrity.

In a statement, Merlo emphasised that the capital of world sports, Doha, is the ideal place to hold the Award Ceremony, especially since the Qatari capital will host the FIFA World Cup later this year.

Merlo confirmed that 80 journalists from different countries will be present in the audience, whose participation and work were selected in each of the nine categories.

Merlo also revealed that best investigative journalist will also be selected this time in Doha. Merlo explained that the awards winners are selected through a secret ballot and no one is aware of the winners until it is announced at the ceremony.

The AIPS President also expressed his gratitude to H E Sheikh Faisal bin Ahmed Al Thani, Chairman of the Qatar Sports Media Committee.

Merlo also noted that he was the one who suggested holding this year's ceremony in Doha. 

Therefore, he was keen to express his sincere thanks to Qatar and the Qatar Sports Press Committee for their preparations to host and organise an impressive ceremony on June 12.

Based on the premise that sport is a valuable tool for education and culture, AIPS with a network of 161 countries, looks to celebrate those professionals, who continue to produce the best most creative content worldwide.

AIPS Sport Media Awards are a celebration of sports media excellence, representing a new, inspiring horizon for sports journalists across the globe. The first edition of the Awards ceremony was held in Lausanne in January 2019.

The second edition was in Budapest in February 2020. The third edition took place in an online live show from the castle of Vigevano, Italy, in March 2021.

Recognised by the International Olympic Committee and all the main Federations, the International Sports Press Association (AIPS) is the professional body representing the international sports media, with more than 9,500 members worldwide.
