Qatar set up shop at Olympic Village of Islamic Solidarity Games in Turkey

Team Qatar set up its station on Saturday at the Olympic Village for the 5th Islamic Solidarity Games, which will be held in the Turkish city of Konya from August 9 to 18, with the participation of nearly 6000 athletes representing 56 countries.

The Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) will compete in 16 sports disciplines, including basketball, volleyball, handball, cycling, athletics, swimming, shooting, Taekwondo, Judo, Karate, weightlifting, wrestling, fencing and gymnastics.

In preparation for its participation in the handball competitions at the 5th Islamic Solidarity Games, the Qatari team won a friendly match against its Turkish counterpart (32-30) in Konya. The Qatari national team was placed in Group A alongside Saudi Arabia, Morocco and Iraq; while Group B includes Turkey, Iran and Azerbaijan.

Formerly scheduled to take place from August 20 to 29, 2021, the event was postponed from September 10 to 19 in July 2020 by the ISSF due to the original dates were coinciding with the 2020 Summer Olympics, which were postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
