Arab countries will support Qatar during World Cup: Salah

Egypt and Liverpool superstar Mohamed Salah has said he is delighted on Qatar’s hosting of the FIFA World Cup, which will be the first ever football showpiece to be held in the Middle East and the Arab World. 


In an exclusive interview with beIN Sports, the Egypt captain hoped he will attend the tournament to be played from November 20 to December 18.


“I am not happy that I will not participate in the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 - but, it is possible that I will be present at the tournament. I am happy that it will be in an Arab country and certainly the Arab countries will support Qatar, and I hope that the Arab teams will give their best during this tournament.”


Egypt failed to qualify for the World Cup after being eliminated by Senegal on penalties in the African qualifiers. Senegal are in Group A with hosts Qatar, the Netherlands and Ecuador. 


During the interview, Salah shared his thoughts on how Liverpool’s Premier League (EPL) season and the reason behind extension of his contract with the club. 



“I wanted to stay at Liverpool because I feel comfortable at the club, and in the city as well, and we reached an agreement between both parties so it was finalised,” he said. 


Speaking on Liverpool’s slow start to the season that saw them drawing with Fulham 2-2 in their opening game, Salah said: “Fulham FC played the game well, whilst we weren’t 10


However, the season has just started, and we can’t make a judgment call based on the first two games alone. We’ll try to make up for it in the next games.”
