Qatar claims six medals in West Asian U-20 Fencing Championship

The Qatar national team clinched gold and silver medals to take the team's total tally to six medals at the West Asian U-20 Fencing Championship in Amman on Tuesday.

Qatar participated in the tournament with 11 players, five girls and six boys, namely Jaber Al-Fadaq, Muhammad Al-Olan, Muhammad Al-Hazza, Mishaal Al-Qahtani, Khaled Aref, Abdullah Khalifa, Sheikha Al-Abdullah, Haya Diab, Lina Al-Buainain, Dana Al-Buainain, and Sarah Diab.

The mission is headed by Assistant Secretary of the Qatar Fencing Federation, Fahad Al Mulla.

Khaled Aref won gold in the fluorescent competition after beating Jordan's Elias Al-Zumar in the U20 final match, while the Qatari female team, Haya Diab, Sarah Diab, Sheikha Al-Abdullah, and Dana Al-Buainain, claimed silver in the U20 epee weapons competition.

With this result, the Qatari team now has two gold, two silver, and two bronze—the epee gold medal U-17 by Jaber Al-Fadaq, the fluorescent gold U-20 by Khaled Aref, the epee silver medal U-17 by Haya Theyab, the epee U-20 female team; the epee bronze U-15 by Sheikha Al-Abdullah, and the fluorescent bronze medal U-17 for Lina Al-Buainain.

The Qatari national team will conclude its participation in the championship with the team event of the Boys' U-20 on Wednesday.

A total of 150 players representing 11 countries, Qatar, Palestine, Oman, Kuwait, Syria, Yemen, Saudi Arabia, Emirates, Iraq, Lebanon, and the host Jordan, are participating in the event.
