Qatar's Al Athba books ticket to Paris 2024 Olympics

Qatar shooter Rashid Saleh Al Athba won a direct qualification for the Paris 2024 Olympics yesterday after claiming bronze medal in the men’s skeet event at the ongoing International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Shotgun Championships 2022 in Osijek, Croatia .Al Athba returned a final score tally of 28 in a tight finals. Egypt’s Azmy Mehelba (40), and  USA’s Vincent Hancock (35) won the top two podium places.Sweden’s Stefan Nilsson ended up fourth with a tally of 17.


This will be Rashid Al Athba’s third Olympic participation. The 42-year-old has earlier competed in the men’s double trap at the 2004 Summer Olympics, and the trap and double trap events at the 2012 Summer Olympics.


Paris 2024 quota spots were on offer with the world’s top shotgun shooters (633 athletes representing 77 nations) competing for world titles in trap (September 26 to 30) and skeet (October 7 to 11) in Croatia.
