Al Sadd yesterday qualified for the semi-finals of the 2022 Ooredoo Cup despite losing to Qatar SC 2-3 in their last Group A match played at Qatar University Pitch 4.
The Juanma Lillo-coached Al Sadd finished second behind Umm Salal with nine points from three wins – same as Qatar SC- but with a better goal difference. At the end of the group stage, Al Sadd had scored 15 goals and had conceded six while Qatar SC had scored 10 goals while giving away eight.
On the other hand, table-toppers Umm Salal - with 13 points, had already secured a place in the semi-finals after Round 4.
Al Sadd were leading 2-0 at halftime, thanks to goals from André Ayew (14) and Rodrigo Tabata (38) before Qatar SC snatched the win away from them through goals from Abdulrahman Mohammed Al Jassem (76), Badr Benoun (83) and Matheus Jussa (83).
Meanwhile, Umm Salal yesterday drew 1-1 with Al Sailiya at Al Ersal pitch 2.
Umm Salal completed the Group stage with 13 points, having won four matches before yesterday’s draw. Al Sailiya were last in Group A.
Al Ahli and Al Wakrah shared points after their last Group A match ended in a two-all draw at Al Egla Pitch 4. Omar Ali (65) and Mohamed Khaled (73) scored for Al Wakrah while Sayed Al Dokali (27) and Sofiane Hanni (87) were on target for Al Ahli who finished fourth in their Group. Al Wakrah were placed fifth.
In Group B, Al Duhail and Al Arabi have already made it to the last four ahead of today's matches in the fifth round.
Al Duhail are at the top of the table with 10 points while Al Arabi are second with nine points. Their closest opponents, Al Gharafa are four points behind ahead of today's matches in the final round.
Al Duhail will take on Al Shamal while Al Arabi meets Al Rayyan in another encounter, and Al Gharafa and Al Markhiya meet in the remaining fixture.
