'Now is all.. Let's Celebrate Together' Event Aims at Educating School Students About World Cup Trip

Qatar National Commission for Education, Culture and Science, organized the "Now is all.. let's celebrate together" event, in partnership with the Youth Committee at Qatar Sports Club and the UNESCO Regional Office in Doha, at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education building, to celebrate the imminent launch of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.

The ceremony witnessed the participation of the Physical Education Department of the Educational Guidance Department at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, the Youth Affairs Department in the Ministry of Sports and Youth, and 23 schools affiliated with UNESCO.

The event included reciting a poem, a theatrical performance, and a sports art show, with a video presentation summarizing Qatar's journey in hosting the World Cup, as well as the World Cup activities organized by the Ministry of Education and Higher Education during the last period which are: "What if I were an international referee 2022?" for the secondary stage, hosted by Ahmad Bin Mohammed Independent School for Boys in cooperation with the Referees Committee of the Qatar Football Association. The "sports show" competition for the primary and model stages in cooperation with the Qatar Women's Sports Committee; in addition to the "World Cup Small Commentator 2022" competition in cooperation with Abdullah Bin Al Zubair Boys School. The activities will conclude with the "World Cup Day" on Tuesday at Al Yarmouk Independent Preparatory School for Boys.

The participating schools presented theatrical performances that focused on educating students at all grade levels about the activities related to the World Cup.

Secretary-General of Qatar National Committee for Education, Culture, and Science, Ali Abdul Razzaq Al Maarafi, stressed the importance of this type of event, which is part of the community partnership with state institutions and within the committee's objectives, and its contribution to enhancing students' awareness and instilling a love of sports in them.

Speaking to Qatar News Agency (QNA), he indicated the committee's great interest in organizing these World Cup events to enhance the student's national identity and push them to contribute to the success of this tournament, which is being held for the first time in the Arab region and the Middle East.

He explained that school students will become the best ambassadors for Qatar while attending the tournament, and their role is great and important in introducing the fans of the World Cup to Qatari society, culture, customs, and traditions.

For her part, Hessa Al Dosari, Chief of the UNESCO Department Coordinator of the International Network of Associated Schools, expressed in a similar statement her happiness with the "Now is all, let's celebrate together" event, praising the efforts made to make it successful through the close cooperation between the Qatar National Committee for Education, Culture and Science, Qatar Sports Club and UNESCO Associated Schools.

In turn, the Chairman of the Youth Committee at Qatar SC, Mohamed Sultan Fakhro, said that the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 tournament will have a positive impact on society, as well as leave a sustainable legacy, and will enhance many aspects, in addition to its contributions to positive change.

The State of Qatar joined the membership of the UNESCO Associated Schools Network in 1983 with one school, Doha Secondary Boys School, and in 1989 secondary and preparatory schools for boys and girls joined, bringing the number of Qatari schools joining the network so far to 80 schools for boys and girls in the elementary, preparatory, secondary educational stages.

One of the objectives of Qatar's schools joining the UNESCO global network is to increase students' knowledge of global issues and educate them on ideals, as well as the importance of international cooperation and understanding, informing them about the cultures of other peoples, promoting understanding and respect for human rights and principles, as well as promoting and supporting communication and exchange of information and experiences between affiliated schools at the level of countries of the world.
