Doha: The FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 official platform for accommodation booking has recorded bookings by fans from nearly 200 nationalities.
“On the platform (www.qatar2022.qa) Saudi Arabia topped in the GCC countries and the US in all over the world in terms of making the highest number of bookings,” said Omar Al Jaber, Executive Director of Housing Department at the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy (SC).
Speaking to Qatar TV recently, he said other top countries on the accommodation booking platform are Mexico, Argentina, the UK, India and Brazil respectively. The official platform offers an exciting range of accommodation options including apartments and villas, cruise ship hotels, fan villages, and hotels.
Speaking about booking accommodation out of official platform, he said fans holding match tickets can book accommodations through any platform — international platform, commercial platform or official websites of hotels.
“But we keep recommending fans to avoid booking accommodations through unknown and unofficial platforms,” said Al Jaber.
To a question, about fans opting to stay with their family and friends during the tournament, he said this was one of the multiple accommodation options.
“Citizens and expatriates who plan to host a fan can register through this very platform for accommodation by providing the necessary information about their houses and guest fans. After registration, and once the accommodation is secured, the guest fans will be able to apply for the Hayya card without booking accommodation.”
He said 1.2 million fans were expected for the World Cup, and the country was fully ready to provide accommodation to all of them.
Offering an exciting range of accommodations to fans at reasonable prices, over 2,000 traditional and modern five-star camps are available for fans through FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 Official Accommodation Platform. A total of 200 five-star traditional camps are available inside the fan village at Al Khor. Each camp comes with two beds and a bathroom and can accommodate two people. The fan village will host various activities and will have giant screens for watching the games.
As many as 1,800 modern camps serving as fan accommodations, set up at Qetaifan Island, have also been added to the platform.
The platform has received a huge number of bookings as the demand surged after the announcement of tickets. The platform was launched in March 2022 to provide fans with a range of accommodations during the mega sporting event.
The platform is offering multiple options, including hotels of various star categories, giant cruise ships serving as floating hotels at Doha Port, serviced apartments and villas managed by a specialist hospitality service provider serving as temporary hotels.
Another option added to the platform is camping and cabin-style accommodations in fan villages located at a number of places.
