Qatari shooter Saeed Abu Shareb clinched skeet gold at the HH The Amir Shooting Championships at Lusail Shooting Club.
Qatar Olympic Committee President H E Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani crowned the winners of the prestigious event.
Contestants from Kuwait, Lebanon, and the UAE besides Qatar shooters took part in the event.
While Abu Shareb won the gold, Kuwait’s Mansour Al Rashidi secured silver with Samer Sarkis of Lebanon claiming the bronze medal.
“I am very happy with this victory after a very strong competition with Olympic and world champions. I stayed focused throughout the event.
The competition was even tough in the final round of the top four and I am delighted to come out of it with a win,” said Abu Shareb.
“This event is one of the best and most powerful tournaments of the season, as it witnesses the participation of a group of top shooters. A win in this event will boost my confidence for future challenges,” he added.
Meanwhile, in the archery event, Farhan Al Saadi emerged victorious with Ahmed Al Abadi and Abdul Aziz Al Abadi clinching silver and bronze medals respectively.
In the amateur category, Bader Al Youssef topped the air pistol competition (standing position) while Rashid Al Nahdi won the 50-meter rifle competition.
Meanwhile, Rashid Al Nahdi and Deborah Dias clinched the 10m air rifle titles.
Qatar Shooting & Archery Association (QSAA) President Mishaal Ibrahim Al Nasr expressed his delight over the top-level competitions during the popular event.
“The Amir Shooting Championships is one of the most prestigious competitions and the performance of the shooters in the event was commendable. We were also pleased with the participation of shooters from Kuwait, Lebanon, and the UAE,” he said.
Al Nasr added that competitions were strong, as they witnessed the participation of Olympic star Nasser Al Attiyah, Kuwaiti Olympic champion Abdullah Al Rashidi, and Rashid Saleh Al Athba, who qualified for the Paris Olympics.
