THIRD YOUTH OLYMPIC GAMES KICK OFF

Buenos Aires, October 06, 2018 - The third Youth Olympic Games kicked off on Saturday in the Argentine capital Buenos Aires with a record participation of more than 4,000 athletes. It will run until 18 October

The state of Qatar will participate in three sports including athletics, swimming and equestrian. Five athletes will represent the state of Qatar in the games including Awab Baro, Ahmed al-Haj and Abdul Aziz Mohamed, Mohammad Al Qashouti and Yacoub al-Khulaifi.

More than 4,000 athletes will compete in 32 sports to be held in 4 facilities: the Olympic Youth Park, the Green Park, the Technology Park.

The opening ceremony of the Youth Olympic Games will be held at Plaza de la Republica in Buenos Aires, and it is the first time in modern Olympic history where an Olympic ceremony will take place in an outdoor arena away from a traditional playground or celebrations playground.

Singapore hosted the first edition of the Youth Olympic Games in 2010, while the second edition was held in Nanjing, China, in 2014.
