Mayes Yousef

Morocco take on Portugal tonight at Al Thumama Stadium in a quarter-final fixture.

This is Morocco’s first time reaching the quarters and they are the only African team left in the tournament.

Morocco are unbeaten at this edition of the world Cup and have caused upsets when they won against Belgium in the group stages and then Spain in the Round of 16.

If Morocco manage a win this evening, they will be the first African team to reach a World Cup semi-final. The winner of their match against Portugal will then take on either England or France in the final four.

Portugal, meanwhile, have only advanced to the semi-finals of the World Cup on two occasions, in 1966 and the again in 2006.

Morocco and Portugal have faced each other at two World Cups, in 1986 and 2018.

Match kick-off is at 18:00 Doha time.
