Katara hosts Tunisian who walked all the way to Qatar for World Cup

The Cultural Village Foundation, Katara, continues to host various cultural and artistic activities and receive a large audience of different nationalities including World Cup fans, citizens and residents.

On Friday, the Tunisian Cultural Days activities in the yard of Building 39 witnessed a great reception for Tunisian adventurer Khalil Dridi, who reached Qatar from Tunisia on foot in celebration of Qatar’s hosting of the World Cup for the first time in the history of the Arab region. 

His journey took nearly two months during which he faced many difficulties which he was able to successfully overcome and reach Qatar safely.

The ceremony was attended by a large number of people of the Tunisian community besides visitors of various nationalities who expressed their happiness at meeting Dridi.

The head of the Tunisian Community Council Abdelbaset Hilali praised the efforts made by Dridi to add a beautiful Tunisian touch to the prevailing festive atmosphere of World Cup 2022 and affirm the cooperation and friendship between Qatar and Tunisia. He said: “We did not find anything better than the Katara Cultural Village to welcome Khalil Dridi, not only because of the presence of a corner for Tunisian activities but also because of the symbolism of the Katara Cultural Village as a place where everyone meets.”

He added that the Tunisian Cultural Days event was in cooperation between the Tunisian City of Culture, the Tunisian Community Council, and the Katara Cultural Foundation. It aims to introduce Tunisian culture and heritage in addition to the fact that we seek through it to support local efforts in supporting the tourism movement and presenting various activities that attract different audiences. 

He also praised the cooperation of those in charge of Cultural Village, Katara, and the facilities that the Tunisian organisers found that had a great impact on the beautiful picture of the diverse content that was presented, whether in relation to the various traditional products, foods, or musical performances that harmonized with the attendees and enabled them to learn about Tunisian musical folklore.

He pointed out that the Tunisian Cultural Days activities will continue in the cultural neighbourhood of Katara until December 18 on a daily basis with a rich artistic program in addition to the various pavilions that display different products of crafts and traditional artifacts in clothing, jewellery, leather and various famous Tunisian dishes.

Meanwhile the pavilion ‘My Identity Center for the Preservation of Islamic Identity’ is witnessing a great turnout by visitors near the Katara Blue Mosque.

Muhammad Al Dakhil, one of the volunteers in the Ambassador campaign, said that the target of this campaign is Muslims of all nationalities, whether Arab or non-Arab. Representation, in his behaviour, dealings, dress, and his love for good, so that the whole world knows that Islam is a religion of love and tolerance that does not know extremism or violence.

Also the Palestinian Dabkeh Festival attracted a wide audience of Palestinian folklore lovers on Friday, held at the amphitheater square, Building 39, under the auspices of the Palestinian Embassy in Doha and the Palestinian School in Qatar.

It is planned to hold a similar festival on Friday December 16.

Today will see the opening of the “Shamsi” exhibition, in cooperation with the Embassy of El Salvador, in Hall 1, in addition to the opening of the “Sudanese Barnada” exhibition, Hall 2 of Building 47.
