First edition of Abu Sidra Mall Chess Championship ends

Curtain fell on the competitions of the first edition of the Abu Sidra Mall Chess Championship which was held in two phases, over three days.

The tournament took place in the presence of Director of Abu Sidra Mall Haroun Qadri, Qatar Chess Federation (QCF) President Muhammad Al Madhahka and Secretary-General of the Federation Youssef Muhammad Al Mutawa.

The first stage was held on the opening day within Blitz competitions consisted of 11 rounds, while the second and third days were held under the rapid chess system under 14 years of 9 rounds.

The opening day and the blitz chess competitions witnessed a very strong and exciting competition, with a large participation of 130 players.

Moldovan Victor Bologan won the champion's title, while Mohammed Al Madhahka came second. Zhou Shen came in the third place, followed by Hisham Hamdoushi in fourth place.

Youssef Muhammad Al'Mutawa was - adjudged the Best Qatari Player, followed by Rayan Irfan in second place and Khaled Al Khulaifi in third place.

India's Amolia Guruprasad clinched the Best Player award.

As for the under-14 rapid chess competitions, 142 male and female players participated, and the winner's title was won by Irfan.

Indian player Syed Abdul Qadir came second while his compatriot Tax Sharma came third.

Ibrahim Al Janahi won the best Qatari player Award in the same age group, followed by Amer Al Hammadi and Muhammad Al Qahtani in second and third places respectively.

In the awards for the best female Qatari player, Fatima Al Hammadi came in the first place, followed by Haya Al Husseini and Asma Al Hammadi in the second and third places respectively.

India's Guruprasad continued her brilliance by winning the championship. For his part, QCF President Al Madhahka praised the levels presented during the tournament, which witnessed great participation in its first edition.

He said, “We are very happy with the strong levels in the tournament, and I would also like to commend the level of Qatari players during the competitions. It is also part of the federation’s plans to hold a large number of tournaments in order to get the players engaged in competitions and gain experience which is needed to represent Qatar chess in future major international events. I would like I thank the officials at Abu Sidra Mall. We are happy to hold the first edition, and we certainly hope that our cooperation will continue to hold many tournaments and activities in the future."
