Loyola Rawlinson of the Philippines claimed top honours at the Open Blitz chess tournament that was organised by the Qatar Chess Training Center and saw participation of over 90 players.

Rawlinson earned 8 and a half points to win the event, held under the supervision of the Qatar Chess Association (QCA). India’s Syed Abdul Qadir finished runner-up while Argentina’s Christian secured third position. Egypt’s Mahmoud Badr and Ryan Mendouza of the Philippines took fourth and fifth positions respectively.

QCF President Mohammed Al Madhahka expressed his delight over growing number of participants in chess events.

“We will continue to host such events as well as more high profile competitions in the coming weeks,” he said. “Such tournaments have many positives in our bid to promote chess in the country and I am happy with the progress,” he added.
