Ernest Aldrich storms to Al Jassasiya Cup win

Under a perfect ride by jockey Lukas Delozier, Abdulatif Hussain Al Emadi-owned Ernest Aldrich registered a two-length win to claim the Al Jassasiya Cup at Al Rayyan Racecourse yesterday.

In the 1900m Handicap (80-100) for 4YO+ Thoroughbreds, the Zuhair Mohsen-trained came through with a rattle in the final stages to win the feature of Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club’s (QREC) 43rd Race Meeting.

In the penultimate race yesterday, trainer Mohamed Khaled Elahmed recorded a quick-fire double as he saddled Ushayqer carrying the colours of Mohamed Abdulla Al Abdulmalik to win the 1200m Handicap (0-80) for 4YO+ Local Thoroughbreds by three lengths under jockey Anas Al Seyabi, who doubled up as well.

Also yesterday, Sabhea Awad Ibrahim’s Mutahaffiz proved the best in the 1200m Handicap (65-85) for 4YO+ Local Purebred Arabians, registering his second straight victory on fourth career start for trainer Elahmed. Ridden by Szczepan Mazur, the five-year-old gelding recorded a comfortable three and a half lengths win.

There was a close finish in the 1100 Handicap (65-85) for 3YO+ Thoroughbreds as the Al Jasra Stud-owned and Abdulla Al Mulla-trained Crush And Run battled on bravely under a brilliant ride from Ivan Rossi to hold off charging Lo De Nalane by just a neck in the closing stages.

Earlier, the 1700m Handicap (0-70) for 3YO+ Handicap (0-70) was taken in incredible fashion by the Al Rufaa Racing-owned and Gassim Ghazali-trained Saxon Scene, who absolutely rocketed home once jockey Alberto Sanna asked him to quicken, storming huge 10 lengths clear of the field by the line.

Al Seyabi guided Metrash while Soufiane Saadi piloted ZF Al Saqaaf to wins in first two races of the day yesterday.
