The Qatar Shooting and Archery Association (QSAA) has made a preparatory schedule for Qatar’s 2024 Paris Olympics bound shooter Rashid Saleh Al Athba, according to Jassim Shaheen Al Sulaiti, Assistant Secretary, QSAA.

Al Athba had claimed a bronze at the ISSF World Championship Shotgun in Osijek, Croatia, last October to seal the coveted berth becoming the first Qatari shooter to qualify for the Paris Olympics.

Speaking to Qatar News Agency (QNA), Al Sulaiti said that the federation has set a preparatory schedule and program for him to attend indoor and outdoor camps to aid his physical and mental readiness ahead of the 2024 Games.

He hoped that Al Athba will achieve a positive result at the Olympics and that a number of his colleagues will join him winning qualification cards for the 2024 Games and will also be taking part in the schedule and the special preparatory program.

Talking about the upcoming plans of QSAA, Al Sulaiti said that all current plans are directed towards the 2024 Olympics and the federation is doing its best to prepare a large number of shooters to participate in overseas tournaments that would help qualify them for the Olympics.

He informed that more than 40 shooters from Qatar will be participating in the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, from September 23 to October 8, 2023.

“We are fully prepared and ready for this session,” he stressed.

Al Sulaiti also pointed out that many Qatari shooters are expected to participate in international tournaments at the end of this month. About 20 male and female shooters from Qatar will participate in the World Cup Shotgun to be held in Egypt immediately after Eid from April 25 to May 5.

As many as 15 male and female shooters from Qatar will participate in the World Cup Rifle/Pistol/Shotgun to be held in Baku, Azerbaijan, from May 8 to 15, and 15 male and female shooters from Qatar will participate in the Arab Archery championship in Tunisia from April 25 to 30.

Al Sulaiti said that they are working to provide the best atmosphere for the shooters to prepare for international participation.

He added the Neshan Ooredoo Ramadan Shooting Tournament started with a rifle and pistol competition for the junior category (from 10 to 15 years), and will continue this week with men's and women's competitions in air pistol, air rifle, archery and shotgun events.
