Qatar U23 team will participate in the 2023 Toulon International Championship which will be held in France from June 5 to 18, the Qatar Football Association announced yesterday.

The national team will take part in the tournament as part of its preparations for the AFC U-23 Championship in Doha 2024, a qualifying event for Paris Olympics. As many as 12 teams, divided into three groups, will compete in the tournament.

Qatar U23 have been drawn in Group B with Australia, Mexico and Togo, while Group A includes hosts France, Saudi Arabia, Costa Rica and Venezuela. Group C comprises Japan, Bolivia, Côte d’Ivoire and Panama.

Qatar will meet Australia in its first match on June 6 at 3:00pm Doha time. They will meet Mexico on June 9 and will play their last group match against Togo three days later. Teams winning the groups and the best runner-up side will enter the semi-finals.

It will be Qatar’s seventh participation in the tournament, having participated in the 2009, 2010, 2014, 2015, 2018 and 2019 editions.

It is worth noting that the Toulon Championship is one of the most important tournaments for the age groups (youth and Olympic) in the world. The event is taking place since 1967.
