QNA

The Qatar Athletics Federation (QAF) on Tuesday announced that four Qatari athletes will be competing in the season-opening 2023 Wanda Doha Diamond League, the first of the 14 leg world series, to be staged at the Khalifa International Stadium on May 5.

Besides Mutaz Barshim, who be leading the challenge in high jump, Musaeb Abdulrahman Ballah and Abdulrahman Saeed (800m) and Musaab Adam (3,000m) will represent Qatar.

The Doha event will raise the curtain to a busy athletics calendar which will see the Asian Championships in Bangkok in July, the World Championships in Budapest in August followed by the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou, China.

Barshim, who holds the record in the high jump for the Diamond League at 2.43m, is considered among all-time greats. He had won the Olympic gold at Tokyo 2020 Games and his third World Championships gold at the Oregon meeting in 2022 being the first athlete to do so.

The Qatari champion is looking forward to a distinguished start to the sports season this year, in search of more successes in the high jump and setting new records.

The 2023 Wanda Diamond League comprises 14 meetings in total, starting with Doha on May 5 and concluding with a single final across two days in Eugene (September 16-17).
