Doha, Qatar- The Super Globe is upon us once again for the eighth consecutive year. Qatar will host this competition contested between the champion clubs from continental confederations.
The tournament will be held from the 16th to the 19th of October at Duhail Handball Sports Hall. The best club from each continent throughout their regional tournaments, the defending champion, a host team and a wild card team will participate.
Last year’s winner, FC Barcelona Handbol, will aim to defend their title, while EHF Champions League winners Montpellier will be strong favorites. Al Sadd will continue their participation as the host nation club, and look to carry on their good performances throughout this competitions history. Having won the Super Globe back in 2002, as well as being two-time runners-up, managed a fourth place finish in last year’s edition.
Al Sadd’s first match will be against Sydney University, winners of the Oceania Champions Cup, on the 16th of October. Meanwhile, defending champions Barcelona will take on Asian Champions Al Najma Club of Bahrain, and EHF Champions League winners Montpellier face African Handball Cup Champions League Runners-up Hammamet of Tunisia. Finally, Pan American Club Champions Brazil’s Handebol Taubaté will take on the wild card from Germany, Füchse Berlin.
