Al Rayyan have parted ways with coach Nicolas Cordova following the recently-concluded domestic football season, the club announced on Monday.

Cordova, who coached Qatar U-23 side, took over as Al Rayyan's interim coach in February 2022 before being confirmed as manager four months later.

However, Al Rayyan struggled throughout the season and finished at dismal ninth place in the QNB Stars League (QSL), which the side won on eight occasions in the past.

"Thank you Nocolas Cordova," Al Rayyan posted on its twitter account.

According to reports, Portuguese Leonardo Jardim will replace the Chilean as he has accepted a two-year contract with the Lions. The club is expected to make the announcement soon.

Jardim recently led Shabab Al Ahli to Adnoc Pro League in the UAE.

The 48-year-old, a former Monaco coach, also guided Saudi Arabia’s Al Hilal to the Asian Champions League title in 2021.
