The semi-finals of the Amir Cup basketball tournament will be played at Al Gharafa Sports Complex today.
Defending champions Al Sadd will meet Qatar Basketball League champions and pre-event favourites Al Rayyan in the first semi-final to kick off at 5pm. Subsequently, the second semi-final between Al Ahli and Al Wakrah will start at 7pm.
Al Sadd entered the semi-finals after topping Group 1 while Al Wakrah emerged winners of Group 2 after the round-robin league stage. The final of the prestigious tournament will be played on Thursday.
The Amir Cup was initiated in the 1999-2000 season with Al Rayyan emerging as champions of the inaugural edition. Al Rayyan remained the most successful side in the competition since then winning the crown nine times from a record 14 appearances in the finals.
Al Gharafa have won the tournament on five occasions while Al Sadd are the three-time champions. Al Arabi, Qatar SC and El Jaish have two Amir Cup titles apiece.
