A Qatar Special Olympics team will be participating in the Special Olympics International Summer Games scheduled to be held in Berlin, Germany, from June 17 to 25. A total of 7,000 special athletes from 170 countries will be competing in 26 Olympic sports at the Games.
The Qatari national team is being represented by five male and female athletes in roller skating, athletics and weightlifting.
Mubarak Al Ahbabi and Shuaa Al Abdullah will participate in the 100 and 300 metres skating competitions while Hamad Al Ahbabi will participate in the 30m straight skating competition and 30m slalom skating competition. Athlete Jassim Fakhroo will compete in the 100m sprint and the long jump, while Mohammed Al Mahmoud will be competing in the push-button and 100m sprint. Hamad Jaber aims to excel in weightlifting.
The Qatari delegation left for Berlin on Monday morning and it includes the six players of the national team in addition to coaches Ali Hudayb and Hessa Al Darwish (skating coaches), Sasia Ahmed (athletics coach) and Muhammad Al Rizqi (weightlifting coach).
Two days ago, the head of the delegation, Abdul Qadir Al Mutawa, Assistant-Secretary of the Qatar Sports Federation for Special Needs and a member of the Board of Directors of the Federation, traveled there to attend meetings of the heads of delegations at the World Summer Games of Special Olympics International.
