Qatar wins West Asia Conference to book a ticket to Nations League Finals

Qatar men’s team yesterday secured their place in the FIBA 3x3 U-23 Nations League Finals 2023 after finishing at the top of the standings in the West Asia Conference held in Doha.

During their journey to the final, Qatar triumphed over Jordan (17-13), Saudi Arabia (21-13), and Turkmenistan (21-15), to win the sixth and final Stop of the Conference. It was their third win in the six-leg series which took place at Al Gharafa Indoor Stadium.

Besides winning first, fourth and the final stop, Qatar also secured second place in the second and third stops. They finished in fourth place in the penultimate stop.

The home team earned an aggregate of 520 points with Turkmenistan finishing second after a total of 500 points. Saudi Arabia finished third with 430 points followed by Jordan, who claimed 410 points from six Stops.

Qatar’s results granted them a win percentage of 72, with an average score of 18.8 points, surpassing their closest rivals Turkmenistan by 1.2 points.

Meanwhile, Jordan topped the Women’s division, winning all three of their games yesterday.

They defeated Qatar (22-5), Turkmenistan (14-11) and Saudi Arabia (21-10) to top the standings with a total of 580 points. The Jordan women won five out of six stops in Doha to finish with an impressive win percentage of 94.

Turkmenistan finished second in the women’s side, followed by Saudi Arabia and Qatar in the third and fourth positions respectively.

Victorious teams from a record 13 Conferences, including the new Asia-Oceania Conference, are vying for tickets to Mongolia this year, with tournaments taking place in Rizhao and Handan in China, and Voiron in France, apart from Doha.

The Nations League finals will take place from September 13-15.

France completed a historic double last year to win both the men’s and women’s categories in the grand finals held in Constanta, Romania.
