Defending champions Great Britain are out of the men's team pursuit after rider Charlie Tanfield was taken to hospital following a crash in the qualification round at the Cycling World Championships.

Tanfield crashed alone on the final bend and was unable to finish, meaning Team GB did not set a qualifying time.

After receiving treatment, Tanfield was able to leave the track unassisted.

He was taken to hospital "for further treatment" said British Cycling.

The 26-year-old was competing alongside team-mates Oliver Wood, Ethan Vernon and Daniel Bigham in Glasgow.

Tanfield, Wood and Vernon finished seventh in the men's pursuit at the Tokyo Olympics two years ago.

GB's Evans reaches bronze medal race

Elsewhere on Wednesday, Briton Neah Evans advanced to the women's elite individual pursuit bronze medal race where she will face Bryony Botha of New Zealand from 19:50 BST.

Evans recorded the fourth fastest qualifying time with compatriot Jessica Roberts not advancing in 10th.

American Chloe Dygert takes on Franziska Brausse in the gold medal race later this evening.

Meanwhile, Team GB's Lauren Bell, Sophie Capewell and Emma Finucane recorded the fastest qualifying time to advance to the first round of the women's elite team sprint.

Britons Alistair Fielding, Hamish Turnbull and Joseph Truman also reached the men's elite team sprint first round, recording the sixth quickest time.
