For sixteen years Wesam Rizik featured regularly in The QSL representing four different clubs. He had two spells with Al Sadd where he won 4 league titles over two spells. It was at Al Sadd during his first spell that he won the AFC Champions League title.
Since retiring as a player Wesam Rizik has managed 4 clubs but they have always been teams fighting relegation. Many felt he deserved a role at a bigger club. That opportunity has arrived in the form of arguably the biggest of all in Al Sadd – a team that boasts 16 league titles and 18 Amir Cups.
Wesam will now draw upon his vast experience to see if he can improve a side that is used to winning. His local knowledge and understanding of the club will stand him in good stead and he could finally make his name as a Qatar Football coach after shining in the country as a player.
Wesam replaces Bruno Perreira who managed to guide Al Sadd to the top of the league after 8 rounds but failed to light up the AFC Champions League. This will be a big pressure on the young coaches shoulders but he certainly has the character to pull it off.
