Kuwait City- Six-time event winner and defending FIA Middle East Rally Champion, Nasser Saleh Al Attiyah will start as title favourite for next month’s Kuwait International Rally.
The event that forms the fourth round of the 2018 FIA Middle East Rally Championship (MERC) is scheduled from November 1-3.
Al Attiyah, who will be bidding for the 14th regional title, teams up with French navigator Matthieu Baumel, in an event witnessed by rally drivers from from Qatar, Kuwait, Lebanon, Jordan, France, Czech Republic, Italy and Portugal.
Meshari Al Thefiri and compatriot co-driver Nasser Al Kuwari are the other two Qataris in the fray. The Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X driver leads the Group N showroom category and is hoping to confirm a fourth MERC 2 title.
Jassim Al-Muqahwi, Masoud Al-Saleh, Mohammed Al-Thefiri, Farad Al-Mutairi and Mubarak Al-Thefiri are the Kuwaiti drivers on the list.
The former President of the Qatar Motor and Motorcycle Federation (QMMF), and former FIA and FIM Vice-President Nasser Khalifa Al Attiyah, will also be in on the action in Kuwait. A regular on the regional rallying scene during the 1990, he lost the MERC title to Sheikh Hamed Bin Eid Al-Thani in 1993.
