The Qatar Handball Association has announced Veselin Vujovic as the new head coach for the national team. Vujovic’s appointment was confirmed last Wednesday, and he expressed enthusiasm about guiding the team to further success on the international stage.

In a recent press conference, Vujovic addressed the challenges ahead, particularly with the upcoming World Championship scheduled to take place from January 14 to February 2, 2025. The tournament, hosted across Croatia, Denmark, and Norway, will see Qatar compete in Group C alongside formidable teams such as France, Austria, and Kuwait.

Vujovic, who takes over from former Spanish coach Valero Rivera, acknowledged the significant achievements of the team under Rivera's leadership, including notable victories in the Asian Handball Championship and a runner-up finish at the 2015 Men’s Handball World Championship in Qatar.

“The task ahead will not be easy,” Vujovic said. “However, I have full confidence in the team’s capabilities. We will work diligently to ensure we are prepared for the World Championship and aim to add another milestone to Qatar’s impressive handball history.”

The new coach also highlighted his intention to integrate fresh talent into the squad. Vujovic plans to select players from the top ranks of the Qatar Handball League through a comprehensive evaluation process, aiming to bolster the national team with emerging talent.

Vujovic expressed his appreciation for the previous coaching staff’s efforts and emphasized his commitment to building on their success. “It’s a significant challenge to follow such a successful period,” he acknowledged. “But with the support of the Qatar Handball Association and the dedication of our players, I am confident we can achieve our goals and make a mark in the upcoming tournament.”

As Vujovic steps into his new role, the Qatar Handball Association and fans alike will be keenly watching to see how his strategies and vision will shape the future of the national team.
