YOUTH OLYMPIC GAMES: ABDELAZIZ & BARROW IN MEDAL CONTENTION

Buenos Aires, Argentina- Qatar’s Mohamed Abdelaziz and Owaab Barrow are in contention for a podium finish during the ongoing Youth Olympic Games, here.

Both Abdelaziz and Barrow would be competing in the finals of their respective events tomorrow.

Men’s 200m heats

Abdelaziz finished ahead of the pack in heats 3 of Stage 1 of the Men’s 200m on Saturday. The 16-year old clocked his personal best of 21.10 seconds to book his place for Stage 2 scheduled for Tuesday.

The Qatari youngster finished a good 0.23 seconds ahead of Jamaican Antonio Watson, who topped the standings in heats 2.

The results of two stages are taken into account for final start list.

Men’s 110m hurdles heats

Meanwhile, Barrow too topped the standings in his particular heats of Stage 1 of the 110m hurdles. He recorded a personal best of 13.33 seconds in heats 3. Hong Kong’s Lok Hei Addis Wong was next best, winning the heats 1 with a time of 13.74 seconds. 

Morocco’s Abderrazzak Mouzdahir and France’s Kenny Fletcher – fastest coming into the Games – both recorded 13.76, failed to make the cut. 

Equestrian

Meanwhile, Mohamed Alqashouti failed to live up to the expectations in the equestrian team competition. The 17-year-old got eliminated in the first stage itself.  In the team event, Alqashouti had represented Australasia, which finished fifth.
