A major bantamweight showdown is set for the UFC's return to China as former flyweight champion Deiveson Figueiredo faces off against former bantamweight titleholder Petr Yan. The five-round main event will take place on November 23 at UFC Fight Night 248 at the Galaxy Arena in Macau. MMA Junkie confirmed the matchup following an initial report from Leo Guimaraes, with Figueiredo also sharing news of the bout on social media.
Figueiredo (24-3-1 MMA, 13-3-1 UFC) has been on a roll since moving up to bantamweight, securing his third consecutive win with a victory over Marlon Vera at UFC on ABC 7 in August. Though Figueiredo was eyeing a title shot against current bantamweight champion Merab Dvalishvili, he'll need to get through former champ Yan first.
Petr Yan (17-5 MMA, 9-4 UFC) is coming off a much-needed win over rising star Song Yadong at UFC 299 in March. Prior to that, Yan had faced setbacks with three straight losses to Aljamain Sterling, Sean O’Malley, and Dvalishvili.
