Al Sadd made a remarkable comeback in Week 6 of the Ooredoo Stars League, securing a thrilling 4-2 victory over Al Gharafa at the Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium on Thursday. This much-needed win lifted The Wolves to fourth place in the standings with 9 points, just behind Al Ahli, while Al Gharafa remained with 8 points.
The game started with Al Sadd asserting dominance early on, as Pedro Miguel opened the scoring in the fourth minute. Just moments later, Cristo González Pérez doubled the lead in the seventh minute, giving Al Sadd a comfortable 2-0 cushion. Akram Afif further extended their advantage in the 27th minute, leaving Al Gharafa struggling to respond.
Despite trailing, Al Gharafa found a glimmer of hope in the 42nd minute when Joselu struck to reduce the deficit, bringing the score to 3-1 before halftime. Yacine Brahimi then added another goal for Al Gharafa in the 59th minute with a superb solo effort, weaving past several Al Sadd defenders before finding the back of the net, cutting the lead to just one goal.
Al Gharafa nearly pulled level in the 53rd minute when Ferjani Sassi missed a golden opportunity. Fed with a perfect lob, Sassi's free header from an unmarked position went wide, much to the relief of Al Sadd’s defense.
Al Sadd had a chance to further extend their lead in the 80th minute after Akram Afif was brought down inside the box by Seydou Sano. However, Afif's resulting penalty missed the target, flying high and wide.
In stoppage time, Al Sadd secured their victory with a fourth goal by Hassan Al Haydous, who fired home from virtually the last kick of the game in the 90+9 minute, sealing a 4-2 win. This marked a significant turnaround for Al Sadd, who had failed to win their previous three matches.
Despite the missed chances and lapses in defense, Al Sadd’s resilience in the final moments helped them claim a crucial victory in their push for a higher spot in the league standings.
