Doha, Qatar- Spain’s national athletics team has started its training camp at Aspire Zone Foundation (AZF) in preparation for a number of upcoming international events.

The visit will also test the training and competition venues that will host the IAAF World Championships in Athletics Doha 2019, scheduled to take place from 28 September - 6 October 2019 at Khalifa International Stadium.

The 30-member sports delegation consists of coaches, officials as well as male and female star athletes including: Miguel Ángel López, Adel Mechal, Eusebio Cáceres, Marta Perez and others.

Coach Jorge Marín revealed the objectives of the training camp and said: “We came here because we want to test the atmosphere and facilities so we are fully prepared for next year. What we have seen is incredible. The facilities are magnificent and Qatar is already as good as ready to organise a top-notch competition.”

Meanwhile, the Spanish middle-distance runner Marta Lopez, said: “We have toured the facilities and seen the Aspire Dome, the swimming pool, the football fields, the tracks and the stadium. But we also came to acclimatise to the temperature and humidity so that when we come back next year we can deliver the best performance possible. I was particularly pleased to see the air conditioning system at Khalifa International Stadium is already fully operational.”
