Leading football organisations in Qatar have joined forces with the Royal Dutch Football Association (KNVB) to deliver a successful training course for female football coaches in the country.
A total of 45 participants received certifications for the coaching and life skills course organised jointly by the Qatar Football Association (QFA) with the KNVB and Qatar Women’s Sports Committee (QWSC), with participation from 15 Generation Amazing female coaches.
“I would like to thank QFA for the good cooperation in the course which has been completed, 45 participants received certificates, and we are more than happy with the way things are proceeding,” said Johan van Geijn, Specialist for International CSR Partnerships at KNVB.
“The talks that we have between the two football associations have been very fruitful, we look forward to four years of working together with the support of our government. For the women’s domain I think we can make good strides.”
The course represented the third time the parties had worked together for women’s football development in Qatar. In April 2018, the KNVB partnered with the QWSC and conducted a course for female coaches in cooperation with EVO Soccer. The training programme was endorsed by QFA, and laid the foundations to reach an agreement for further cooperation with the KNVB.
“We are proud and pleased to work together with the KNVB on such important and sustainable developments for women’s football coaches in Qatar, which fits in with the wider collaboration efforts between our two organisations,” said Mansoor Al Ansari, Secretary General of the QFA.
“The success of Dutch football in both women’s and men’s football over many years is reflective of their fantastic grassroots coaching work, which these female coaches were able to benefit from. Our close collaboration with the QWSC and Generation Amazing also speaks to the concerted effort being made to continue the development of women’s football in Qatar.”
In December 2018, a refresher course served as the cornerstone and activation for a Memorandum of Understanding between QFA and the KNVB during their visit to Doha. The KNVB transmitted to participants of the recent four-day course experience from their successful women’s national team who were crowned UEFA European Champions in 2017.
Participants of the training course included 15 female coaches and volunteers from Generation Amazing, the human and social legacy programme initiated during Qatar’s successful bid for the 2022 FIFA World Cup™ in 2010, which uses the power of sport to positively impact lives and create sustainable social development in communities across Qatar, the Middle East and Asia.
Generation Amazing coaching volunteer Eman al Khamiri said the course helped her to achieve an important addition to her technical and tactical expertise: “Each one of the Dutch coaches made sure that everyone understands coaching theory before applying it on the field.
“This coaching workshop offered by the KNVB together with the QFA and QWSC was the absolute motivation for coaches, players and attendees to increase their awareness of the important role of the coach in the field. This opportunity gave us the benefit of thinking in a strategic way, which is so important in coaching.”
