A 1-0 victory over Muaither propelled Qatar SC to the third round of the Amir Cup courtesy of a Samuel Eto’o goal in the 82nd minute at Grand Hamad Stadium.
The win was the second one for Qatar SC against Muaither within a span of five days.
On Wednesday, Qatar SC had defeated Muaither by an identical margin in the QSL play-off match to retain their spot in next season’s QSL. Qatar SC are now poised to take on Al Ahli in the third round of the tournament.
In the other match, Al Markhiya helped by goals from Abdulla Fahad A Hajri, Ouday Khaled Abduljaffal, Uche Kalu, Osam Musa Al Oun and Hamza Sanhaji, Al Markhiya advanced into the third round after beating Al Khuraitiyat 5-3 in a goal-thriller.
At the end of half time Markhiya were leading 4-1.
In the second half, Al Kharaitiyat attempted a comback and manged to reduce the margin but a last minute goal put the issue beyond doubt for Al Markhiya.
Al Markhiya started on a flourish by scoring four goals within a span of 16 minutes.
They opened the goal account in the ninth minute, added a second one three minutes later and the third one came in the 18th minute and the fourth goal came in the 25th minute.
Al Kharaitiyat pulled one back in the 40th minute through Valentin Marius Lazar to make it 4-1 going into the half time break.
In the second half, Al Kharaitiyat scored in 70 and 86 minute, through Lazar and Abdurahman Abakar Mohammad, to make it 4-3 but a last minute goal gave Al Markhiya the advantage and a place in the third round where they will take on Al Shahaniya.
