SEVEN MEMBER STATES BOYCOTT ARAB SPORTS PRESS ASSOCIATION ELECTIONS

Caitlin Dillon

Seven countries - Jordan, Oman, Libya, Qatar, Syria, Yemen and Lebanon - have chosen to boycott the Arab Sports Press Association Elections following a dispute that occurred yesterday at the Association's General Assembly in the Jordanian capital of Amman.

Members became irate after the Press Association's President, Mohammed Jamil, rejected the previously accepted Yemeni candidate, Basheer Sinan, on the grounds that the International Sports Press Association accredited Yemeni sports body was not legally recognised. On top of this, the Arab Sports Press Association failed to provide the afformentioned countries with the union's annual financial report.
