QATAR’S OLYMPIC SIDE ARRIVES IN FRANCE FOR TOULON TOURNAMENT

Qatar’s Olympic team yesterday arrived in France to make their sixth appearance in the Toulon Tournament.

This year’s tournament, which will be held in the region of Provence from June 1 to 15, will be the 47th edition of the annual event.  

Qatar will join three Asian teams during the tournament, namely Bahrain, China and Japan in the 12-team event which will take place across six host cities in Southern France.

Qatar are pitted along with France, Guatemala and Brazil in Group C and will meet the tournament hosts in their opening fixture on June 2 at the Stade de Lattre-de-Tassigny, Aubagne and will play against Guatemala on June 5. On June 8, they will play their final group match against the strong South American counterparts.  

In this season the tournament will be contested mostly by under-22 national teams, although France, Portugal, England and Republic of Ireland will play with their under-18, under-19, under-20 and under-21 teams, respectively.

Mexico, Chile, England, Portugal and Ireland are the rest of the teams who are competing in the 15-day event.
