SQUASH: STAGE SET FOR QATAR CLASSIC

Doha, Qatar- The Qatar Classic 2018, the 16th edition of the annual premier squash tournament, starts on Saturday.

The week-long tourney has attracted the finest in the sport to the Khalifa International Tennis & Squash Complex.

World No.1 Mohammed El Shorbagy of Egypt is leading the pack of 48 players, including most of the world’s top 20, who will be competing for the tournament’s total cash prize of $177,750 and trophy.

Giving competition to El Shorbagy compatriot and World No.2 Ali Farag. German Simon Rosner and Miguel Angel Rodriguez of Colombia are the other names to watch out for.

Qatar’s Abdulla Mohd Al Tamimi, Syed Azlan Amjad and Abdulrahman Al Malki are leading the local challenge.

Considering that the Qatar Classic 2018, is a PSA World Tour Platinum tournament, the winner automatically qualifies for the season-ending PSA World Tour Finals, which includes both a men’s and women’s tournament.

“There is a huge expectation for this year’s tournament considering the caliber of players on parade. We are delighted to play host to such a strong field. Fans of squash in the country are set for a week-long feast of great games which is something we are happy about.  Ticket sales have been quite encouraging and we believe Qatar Classic 2018 will be the best ever,” Tournament Director Tareq Zainal, was quoted as saying by the local dailies.
