Olympic
champion Simone Biles was admitted to Hamad General Hospital’s emergency room last
night with a kidney stone, just hours before she was due to compete in today’s
Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in Doha.
Posting on twitter from her hospital bed, the four-time Olympic champion, and 10-time
world champion said, “Nothing like a late night ER visit less than 24 hrs before
world championships.” However, the athlete refuses to let her illness get in
the way, adding, “This kidney stone can wait… Doing it for my team!”
Biles won
four gold medals and a bronze at the 2016 Rio Olympics before taking an 18-month
break from competing in 2017. The start of the women’s qualification rounds in
Doha today marks her official international return.
