Doha, Qatar- This weekend, from the 8th to the 10th of November, the finale of the 2018 Longines Global Championships Tour (LGCT) will be taking place at Doha’s world-class Al Shaqab.
In line with the vision of His Highness the Father Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, Al Shaqab was established in 1992, at the site of the Battle of Al Shaqab.
A member of Qatar Foundation, the leading equine centre aims to highlight and preserve Qatar’s rich equestrian heritage through the promotion of the Arabian horse. Having bred three World Champion stallions, the world-class facilities have a strong focus on educating the local population in some of the finest state-of-the-art facilities in the world.
With the 2018 season of the LGCT having begun in Mexico City in March, Doha is the penultimate leg of the tour, where the best athletes in the world will battle it out to settle their place in the prestigious LGCT rankings.
Having established itself as a hub for major international sporting events, this year’s final creates the ideal opportunity to showcase the Qatari talent on an international playing field. This year, amongst the Qatari national riders are the increasingly prominent Sheikh Ali bin Khalid Al Thani, and Bassem Hassan Mohammed, both of whom competed in Rio with the Qatari Olympic Showjumping team, and the latter of which won the Grand Prix last year in Doha.
