QATAR FACE SWITZERLAND, ICELAND AS ASIAN CUP PREPARATIONS CONTINUE

A full-strength Qatar will take on hosts Switzerland in an international friendly tomorrow, giving team coach Felix Sanchez another opportunity to check the fitness of his players.

Qatar arrived in Switzerland on Sunday. The squad plans to train today following light training yesterday.

On November 19, Qatar face Iceland in another friendly scheduled to help the national team players get match practice ahead of their 2019 Asian Cup opening clash in January next year.

Sanchez and his players arrived in Luganao, a city in southern Switzerland’s Ticino region, on Sunday.

After their friendly against Switzerland at Cornaredo Stadium, Qatar squad flies to Belgium for their clash against Iceland.

Cornaredo Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium in Lugano. It is used mostly for football matches. It is a home ground of FC Lugano.

The stadium is able to hold 15,000 people and was built in 1951. The stadium has 5,000 seats and 10,000 standing places. During the 1954 FIFA World Cup, it hosted one game.

The clash against Switzerland will kick off at 9:00pm QST.

Before leaving for Europe, Qatar squad trained at the team headquarters at Aspire Academy with coach Sanchez supervising the training sessions.

QFA has scheduled a friendly blitz for the national side in the lead up to the 2019 Asian Cup to be held in the UAE from January 7- February 1.

Since early September, Qatar has played four friendly matches against China, Palestine, Ecuador in Doha and against Uzbekistan in Tashkent.

Qatar beat China 1-0, China 3-0 and Ecuador 4-3 before losing to Uzbekistan 2-0 in the away friendly.

Al Annabi will play more international friendlies next month when it hosts Jordan, Kyrgyzstan, Algeria and Iran on December 17, 23, 25 and 31.
