LOCAL HERO AL TAMIMI CRASHES OUT

Doha, Qatar- Top seed Omar Mosaad of Egypt entered the semi-finals of the QSF No.1 PSA Bronze tournament even as local star Abdulla Al Tamimi, at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex, here on Monday. 

Third seed Daryl Selby got the better of Al Tamimi. Selby showed no signs of fatigue, after playing a gruelling second round match against experienced Olli Tuominen on Sunday. The Englishman took the first game but Al Tamimi fought back to take the second to draw level. The third was a closely fought one with Selby coming on top. In the fourth, Selby wrapped up the proceedings to win 11-4, 5-11, 13-11, 11-8 in 59 minutes and reach the semi-finals.

The former World No.3, Mosaad took 40 minutes to beat Joshua Masters of England. The World No. 53 from England tried his best in the first two games, but still lost 11-8 and 14-12 respectively. In the third game, however, Mosaad took full control over the proceedings to win it 11-2. Mosaad will now take on another Englishman George Parker in the last four clash.

World No. 44 Parker, who had upset Australia’s World No.21 Cameron Pilley on Sunday, packed off Malaysia’s Ivan Yuen yesterday. The 22-year-old Parker took 57 minutes to complete an impressive 11-9, 11-5, 7-11, 11-9 victory and advance to the semi-finals.

In the second round, Yuen also enjoyed his own upset after he defeated number seven seed Chris Simpson in straight-games. The World No.57 Yuen was in strong form to condemn Englishman Simpson to an 11-6, 11-9, 11-9 defeat.
