Al Shahania secured all three points with a 1-0 away victory against bottom of the league Al Kharaitiyat in Week 13 of the QNB Stars League at the Al Khor Stadium on Friday.
The only goal of the night came from Luciano Vazquez in the 29th minute.
In a fairly-even opening period, the sides were reduced to minimal chances, with Al Kharaitiyat’s Valentin Lazar coming the closest as he tested Khalifa Al Dossari with a long-range strike.
Al Shahania were the first to make the breakthrough as they broke away on the counter. A tidy exchange of play between Kesse Amangoua and Semeskandi resulted in a perfectly-weighted cross to the back post and Luciano was on hand to plant home a close-range header.
The home side had threatened to get themselves back into the game as they became stronger in the second half. Jugurtha Hamroun came close to an equaliser when he saw his free-kick go marginally wide, before a fantastic 40-yard free-kick from Faez Ali required an equally-magnificent save from Al Dossari in goal.
Al Shahania turned it up a gear towards the end with Al Raeesi seeing a good effort go over, but it was already enough as they held on for victory.
