QATAR WIN SEVEN MEDALS AT ARAB YOUTH ATHLETICS CHAMPIONSHIPS

Qatari athletes won seven medals including one gold, two silver and four bronze medals to conclude the 2019 Arab Youth Athletics Championships campaign on a high in Rades, Tunisia on Sunday.

Qatar occupied the eighth position in the medal tally in the four-day competition which was organised by the Arab Athletic Federation.

Young high jumper Mohamed Nouh Khalifa won the sole gold medal for Qatar, clearing a height of 2.01 metres ahead of Kuwait’s Hachem Adnene who won the silver (1.95m). Iraqi athlete Sajjad Abdelkhalek Mohammed won the bronze medal with a performance of 1.90m.

Qatar’s two silver medals were won by Hamza Souissi (18.32m in the boys’ shot put) and Ammar Abid Abdelmajid (52.72 secs in the boys’ 400 metres hurdles).

Abdallah Tarek Charaf ( 61.92m in the hammer throw), Aman Majid Bachir (6.37m in the long jump), Mohammed Zakaria Mouhajer (10.88 secs in the 100m) and Said Ali Al Ali (3.40m in the pole vault), were the bronze winners for Qatar at the championship.

Athletes aged below 18, representing 13 countries took part in the event in which Morocco topped the tally with 23 medals.
